About The Author & Blog

The author in his natural habitat.

Hello dear reader, I’m The Lavender Bat and I’m the author of this fledgling blog. In many ways, I am a poster child for why many overbearing parents convince their children not to go to school for the arts and humanities. In another part of the multiverse, I was a wannabe academic, but stopped after the Master of Arts (hey, school is expensive, and academic jobs in the humanities are increasingly few and far between). So I have a Master’s Degree with no job prospects, and all I’m doing with my life is writing a Batman-centric blog? Yup, praise the Bat Family!

Whether because of burnout or some form of anger/resentment, I find that my motivation and interest in my former field is hard to come by, so I am channeling that energy into what in many academic circles may be considered taboo: pop culture, and in particular Batman.

As you may know from other fan-based content you have seen, I must kneel at the altar and pronounce the requisite statement “I have been a Batman fan for as long as I can remember.” Although cliche, the Batman: The Animated Series blanket that I still have from when I was 2 years old, can attest to this. However, it was in my early teens, when I was admitted to an adolescent psychiatric ward and stayed for an unnecessarily lengthy period of time when my obsession truly solidified. Not only an escape, Batman became a way to understand my trauma and ongoing mental health struggles, process it, and learn how to overcome it. It was a way for me to make sense of a world that at times really doesn’t make sense.

The name of this blog utilizes the suffix -ology denoting a field of study, and is a tip of the hat to my academic-y way of analyzing things (I never said I was a GOOD academic). The core of an academic study is to question things. Which is what this blog is about: making sense of the world, my mind, my thoughts, and at least trying to understand the minds and experiences of others through the Batman media I am consuming by asking questions.

Essentially, Batman is a lens to see and understand the world around us, if only we look with an open mind. While the blog will be centered around Batman and the Bat Family, it may at times venture to other characters, properties, and topics. After all, this blog is for me. It is in my own personal voice and writing style on things that are on my mind at any given time. And unless quoting from another text, they express my personal views and opinions unless directly quoting the words of another person. If some other people find some enjoyment from my blog along the way, that’s great! Welcome!! Feel free to get in touch through the contact page.

Finally, while I am doing this blog with the assumption that it will make $0 (and really cost me money to maintain), I will never turn down any kind of support including monetary donations which can be done on the completed through the Support page.
